Here are summaries of two recent murder trials that show how we handle these cases:
- In 2005, Mr. Armstrong represented a client accused of robbing a man and shooting him to death. This case had the potential to lead to the death penalty. Through investigators, we e questioned witnesses' stories as well as their ability to accurately identify the perpetrator. Mr. Armstrong's representation resulted in not-guilty verdicts on all charges, including burglary, robbery, first- degree murder, and assault with a firearm.
- In 2008, Mr. Armstrong represented a client accused of killing a man. The case resulted from the client intervening when he witnessed a neighbor beating a woman. When our client felt endangered, he killed the man who was committing the beating. Our investigation revealed that the deceased reached into his waistband, creating a situation in which our client felt he needed to act in self-defense. Though our client shot the deceased three times in the back, our handling of the case resulted in a very rare dismissal of the case by the district attorney before the case was even tried.
